SYNDICATE

DeathAngelKillingSeasonNote: In 2004, Death Angel released their first LP since 1990’s Act III, one of the greatest thrash albums of all time. Four years later, the metal legends are back with another full length.
Sound: Lots of shredding, technically proficient guitars and bruising rhythms, however Killing Season finds Death Angel toning down some of their virtuosic guitar work and blistering tempos in favor of more straight ahead aggressive rock. The result is some of the band’s hookier and catchier tracks to date. And, as always, frontman Mark Osegueda shows all the screamy metalcore pretenders how it’s really done with his wicked, powerful and commanding vocals.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “The Noose”; “God vs. God”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Lord of Hate”; “Buried Alive”; “When Worlds Collide”; “Sonic Beatdown”
Recommended: It’s amazing to hear that these thrash masters still have what it takes to be one of the greatest heavy bands out there. Though it’s been a pretty weak decade for the genre, Killing Season is easily one of the Top 5 metal albums of the ‘00s.
Grade: A- (Top 20 Albums of 2008 Candidate)
