Sound: Dreamy and gorgeous roots rock with guitars that shimmer, sing or rip with a fury and vocals that soothe, soar or cut through the atmosphere. The tempo favors laid back but finds time to kick into higher gears from time to time.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “No One’s Gonna Love You”; “The General Specific”; “Marry
Song”; “Window Blues”
Medium Rotation tracks: The rest
Recommended: Cease to Begin is less hazy and trippy than Band of Horses debut Everything All the Time. They’ve toned down the reverb and let Ben Bridwell’s elegant voice shine. As a result, everything sounds crisper and has a more direct, powerful impact. The best two tracks are in the first half, but the second half of the album is actually more consistently strong. So make sure you hear the whole thing. This is one of 2007’s best.
