SYNDICATE

EditorsEndHasStartSound: The icy pessimism of their debut album The Back Room has been largely replaced with a warmer, more hopeful tone. Instead of embodying the dour gloominess of Joy Division, Interpol and Echo and the Bunnymen, the music has the soaring vastness of Coldplay, U2 and Keane. Monstrous guitars echo and swirl, piano gracefully glides and Tom Smith’s powerful vocals narrate examinations of death, coping with loss and redemption with debonair romanticism and a sinister bite.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors”; “Escape the Nest”
Medium Rotation tracks: “The Racing Rats”; “When Anger Shows”
Recommended: An End Has A Start lacks the string of knockout singles The Back Room had, but it makes up for it by being a more wide-ranging and approachable album. Editors have established themselves as a versatile act with the potential for a lengthy and distinguished career.
