SnoopDoggBlueCarpetSound: A mix of laid back, r&b-flavored Cali grooves, hardcore gangsta anthems, bouncy, pimp party jams and sobering reflections.
Lyrics: Over the last decade Snoop has phoned in many of his collabos on others’ tracks and verses on his own albums, but on Tha Blue Carpet Treatment he’s near the top of his game. With a renewed sense of purpose he occasionally gets socially conscious, calling for peace and unity between warring groups like Blacks and Latinos, Crips and Bloods, while maintaining his street edge, swagger and silky smooth flow.
Heavy Rotation tracks:Vato” featuring B-Real; “Round Here
Medium Rotation tracks:That’s That Shit” featuring R. Kelly; “Imagine” featuring Dr. Dre and D’Angelo; “Crazy” featuring Nate Dogg;
Explicit Lyrics*: On pretty much every track. You’ll need the clean version if you’ve got to keep your music FCC-friendly.
Recommended: Tha Blue Carpet Treatment has more to offer than most Snoop Dogg albums and is a satisfying collection of all the styles he’s mastered over the years. Unfortunately, it’s way too long and has a lot of unnecessary and distracting collabos. If you took the first four songs and some carefully selected highlights from the second half of the album, Tha Blue Carpet Treatment would be one of Snoop’s best ever.
Grade: B
