Note: This is the third solo album from the former Pavement frontman
Sound: He’s pushed the progressive guitar sounds of the last album, Pig Lib, further by adding some whacked-out synthesizers in spots. Despite constant experimentation with odd chords, tunings and arrangements, each song is reined in to a catchy, multi-faceted hookfest. Whether with rock journeys, elegant meditations or sunny pop tunes, the offbeat and singular sound and mind of Mr. Malkmus keeps you riveted.
Heavy Rotation tracks: All of them, except for “Malediction”
Recommended: Highly to all Pavement/Malkmus fans, this ranks with, if not above, the best Pavement albums (Terror Twilight and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
) and is the best album of his already stellar solo career.
Grade: A+ (Strong Album of the Year Candidate)
