ShoutOutLoudsIn 2005, Sweden’s Shout Out Louds’ released the #5 song and #15 album of the year in the U.S., in my opinion. The song, “Very Loud” (see Top 20 Songs of 2005) details a frustrated and doomed love but is the kind of super catchy anthem that dares you to resist its magic. The album, Howl Howl Gaff Gaff (see Top 20 Albums of 2005) is an ‘80s indie pop throwback with a modern twist and distinctive voice. Despite channeling legends like U2, The Smiths and New Order on their international debut, Shout Out Louds established themselves as an original new band you could fall in love with, particularly if you had a fondness for the bands they resembled.

On September 11, they’ll release the follow-up, Our Ill Wills, their first full-length for Merge Records. The first single, “Tonight I Have To Leave It,” has been available for weeks.

Its bouncy acoustic strum and breezy but pained pop is certainly reminiscent of The Cure classic “In Between Days.” So, yes, it’s another throwback sound with a modern twist, but frontman Adam Olenius makes everything his own. They now have a slick new video for the track, which you can watch below.
