KingdomofDoomAs previously reported on New Music Nation, Damon Albarn (Blur frontman, Gorillaz mastermind) has another project up and running. The Good, The Bad and the Queen finds him working with producer Danger Mouse again (he produced Gorillaz Demon Days) and an all-star cast of musicians that includes Paul Simonon (bassist of The Clash), Simon Tong (guitarist of The Verve) and Tony Allen (Afrobeat drumming pioneer).

Last month, they released the first single from the upcoming album (you can stream “Herculean” here). They’ve just announced that the second single will be “Kingdom of Doom.” It won’t officially be out until mid-January, but you can check it out now.

There’s a mellow cool to these two singles that recalls some of the album tracks on latter day Blur and the Gorillaz albums. Good stuff, but they sure don’t feel like obvious, hooky, singles. I’m curious if these are representative of the album as a whole.

The Good, The Bad and The Queen’s U.S. release will come on January 23rd and the track listing is as follows:

1. History Song
2. 80s Life
3. Northern Whale
4. Kingdom of Doom
5. Herculean
6. Behind the Sun
7. The Bunting Song
8. Nature Springs
9. A Soldier’s Tale
10. Three Changes
11. Green Fields
12. The Good, The Bad & The Queen

Speaking of the ruling British monarch, if you haven’t seen the movie The Queen yet, I highly recommend it. The film is centered around Princess Diana’s death and how the British people, their new Prime Minister Tony Blair and his people, and most importantly Queen Elizabeth II and her people handle the situation. Fascinating topic. Excellent acting and directing. See it.
