SYNDICATE

JanetWeissphotoAccording to The Portland Mercury, Janet Weiss is the new drummer of Stephen Malkmus’ backing band, The Jicks. It seems she couldn’t be in just one band for very long. Since seminal aggressive rock goddesses Sleater-Kinney played their farewell show back on August 12th, Janet found herself a member of only one band for the first time in over a decade (the other being quirky noise pop duo Quasi).

Sleater-Kinney’s breakup is one of the sadder indie-rock stories of the year for sure. But Janet joining the Jicks makes her part of one of the greatest indie rock successes of the decade – Stephen Malkmus proving that his post-Pavement output could be just as good as Pavement. Plus, Janet has one of the greatest smiles in music – the more Janet, the better.

I should also note that this means the drummer from my #1 album of 2002 (Sleater-Kinney’s One Beat) will be joining the band responsible for my #1 album of 2005 (Stephen Malkmus Face The Truth). So this is all pretty good news to me.
