Owen At Home With Owen (Polyvinyl)

OwenAtHomeNestled in Chicago there are three brothers who had the power to turn anything they played to gold. Brother Mike Kinsella played in Cap’N Jazz, Joan of Arc, Owls and American Football. Of these bands only American Football is directly comparable to Owen. Well, first off Owen is Mike Kinsella. He has played drums for his brother Tim’s bands for most of his career until he was able to showcase his guitar skills in American Football. After that Owen was birthed. At Home With is his fourth album and sticks to the patent Owen formula. Just mix innocent emotional lyrics, add a dash of resentment, stir with love, masterful acoustic guitar playing and simple yet hauntingly beautiful arrangements. This time around Mike adds a treat to the mix with a cover of The Velvet Underground’s “Femme Fatale.” The album concludes with a ballad about growing up playing in rock bands and wanting stability in his life. This is another masterpiece.
