Sound: From track to track Santogold jump from one style to another with reckless abandon. Synthy, new wavy pop/rock (think Missing Persons meets Gwen Stefani); punky ska (think No Doubt); tribal electro (think M.I.A.); feminist, quirky indie rock (think Liz Phair) and many more genres and hybrids are represented. The only common thread is frontwoman Santi White’s voice, but even that jumps from a sexy rasp to a quirky yelp to a banshee wail and more.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “You’ll Find A Way”; “L.E.S. Artistes”; “I’m A Lady” featuring Trouble Andrew
Medium Rotation tracks: “Creator”; “Shove It” featuring Spank Rock; “Say Aha”; “Lights Out”
Recommended: Nearly every track on Santogold is catchy and single-worthy (though several of the hooks can get repetitive) and an exciting blast of either modern electro experimentation or throwback indie rock with a 2008 update. But the musical hopscotch makes the album feel disjointed and confusing.
