Note: The pioneering underground MC hasn’t released a full-length album since 2000, the year he released Both Sides of the Brain (an official solo album) and Deltron 3030 (his classic one-off project with Dan the Automator and Kid Koala). And he’s been predominately out of the limelight since rhyming on the monster Gorillaz hit “Clint Eastwood” in 2001.
Sound: Funky old school breakbeats with some turntable scratches, vintage 80s synths and electro r&b basslines thrown in occasionally. Over this backdrop, Del spits his signature book-smart rhymes.
Heavy Rotation tracks: none
Medium Rotation tracks: “Naked Funk”; “Str8t Up and Down”; “Last Hurrah”
Recommended: Both lyrically and rhythmically Eleventh Hour is more simplistic than anything Del’s done before, which unfortunately makes this a more pedestrian effort for him. It’s great to hear a hip hop legend back on the mic and behind the boards (he produced 10 of the 13 tracks), but making this comeback album less obtuse and out-there than his previous stuff is a letdown. Plus, Eleventh Hour is a little short on memorable hooks and lines.

I couldn’t agree more. This album was really a let down to me. It’s not nearly as goofy or out there as some of his previous stuff, and the result is a boring album without a single standout track. He doesn’t seem like the wordsmith that he use to be. He must have lost his thesaurus. When I saw that it was on Def Jux and not Heiro, I assumed we were going to be in for some space age beats a la Deltron 3030, but this shit is just plain boring!
