SYNDICATE

Buck65SituationNote: Situation is a concept album examining the events of 50 years ago, 1957
Sound: Turntable scratches and raw funk beats create an indie hip hop backdrop for Buck 65 to spit his monotone and raspy rhymes. His rugged and descriptive storytelling is often attention-grabbing and amusing as he channels the seedy, street level growl of Tom Waits combined with Everlast. Meanwhile, the music’s Beck-like in its genre blending – mixing electronic elements, along with surf, southern and roots rock into the urban-flavored, rhythm-heavy mishmash.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “1957”; “Way Back When”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Heatwave”; “Dang”; “The Outskirts”; “Lipstick”
Recommended: Buck 65 is one of the most original artists of the decade. He takes many risks - some feel forced and odd; others create exciting, untapped musical possibilities.
It’s difficult to take him seriously for an entire album, but you must at least hear the highlights on Situation.
