Note: Currently In Rainbows is only available digitally at inrainbows.com. A deluxe edition will be available at inrainbows.com by December. And next year, the album will have a more traditional, widely distributed CD release.
Sound: A mix of electronic beats and icy ballads with lots of swirling atmosphere and haunting vocals. Occasionally, the guitars get more aggressive and approximate rock.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Nude”; “Jigsaw Falling Into Place”
Medium Rotation tracks: “15 Step”; “Bodysnatchers”; “Reckoner”
Recommended: In Rainbows recaptures some of the beauty of OK Computer and the uncompromising, futuristic drive of Kid A and Amnesiac, but these songs aren’t quite at the same level. The vibe they create is intoxicating, but don’t expect many memorable hooks or Radiohead classics.
Grade: B

Oh man, is this one a snoozer or what?
It sounds cool. But few of the songs leave me with a lasting impression. I’m surprised, though, it seems like you’d be more into this.
I wonder how this record would have been received if they didn’t do the online freebie and you had to pay $14 for a CD at the shop.
I don’t think the Radiohead die-hards would feel cheated if they spent $14 on this. They’ve argued Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief are quality albums, despite them being pretty far below Radiohead’s old standards.
