Sound: Kanye’s hip hop jumps all over the place with soulful reflections, electro synth freakouts, ominous creepouts and more. His comedic rhymes, as always, are peppered with pop culture references, fiery conviction and, more than ever, nostalgia.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Homecoming” featuring Chris Martin; “Good Life” featuring T-Pain
Medium Rotation tracks: “Can’t Tell Me Nothing”; “Everything I Am”; “The Glory”; “Good Morning”
Recommended: He’ll probably never match the quality of his earthshattering debut, The College Dropout (my #1 album of 2004) and Graduation lacks the monster hits of his sophomore album Late Registration. However, he continues to push the boundaries of hip hop and shows he’s not afraid to try anything musically or say anything lyrically. As usual, Kanye delivers a couple cringe-worthy and head-scratching moments, but there are far more forward-thinking, fresh sounds that will keep both music lovers and casual pop fans on their toes.
