Sound: A mix of Sharkey’s apocalyptic breakbeats and funky party jams that meet up with C-Rayz Walz’s thick and fierce flow and a wide array of soulful, poppy and worldly hooks.
Look For: “Electric Avenue” – essentially a cover of Eddie Grant’s Caribbean crossover hit with rapped verses.
Heavy Rotation track: “Might She Shoot”
Medium Rotation tracks: “My Way”; “Pain to the Picture”; “That Moment Before Crazy”; “Forgotten”
Recommended: Monster Maker is more fun and approachable than your average indie hip hop album due to the abundance of catchy, sing-along hooks. But those melodies are often too prominent and prevent C-Rayz Walz from fully flexing his mic skills. Yes, there are lots of memorable choruses, but next time Sharkey and Rayz collaborate, they should leave room for more memorable rhymes.
