MarilynMansonEatMeDrinkMeSound: His vampire glam/goth metal grooves and androgynous moans, groans and chants move in a more pensive direction. Songs spread out with lengthier guitar solos and extended dirges, instead of his quick-hitting, shock rock hooks. Inspired by his relationship with young actress Evan Rachel Wood, this is Marilyn Manson’s dark and twisted version of romance.
Heavy Rotation tracks: none
Medium Rotation tracks: “Heart-Shaped Glasses (When the Heart Guides the Hand)”; “Evidence”
Recommended: I’m not sure how many Marilyn Manson fans want to hear his mellower, more introspective side, especially since the lyrics are still pretty juvenile and dirty. And when he amps up the tempo, he mostly churns out by-the-numbers Manson that’s inferior to his stellar catalogue. The extended guitar work feels like musical growth, but it’s undermined by the silliness and profanity in the content. Eat Me, Drink Me feels too long and aimless, and lacks the instantly catchy anthems we’ve come to expect.
Grade: C+

[…] Manson, for those who still care about his music […]

  2. Codeblack Says:

C+? are you serious? I dunno why but IMO, this album is far better than The Golden Age of Grotesque, sucks that there aren’t enough people on my side. I admire him, and at least hope he doesnt stop with this..
    Cheers folks.

  3. Dave Says:

The title track on Golden Age is better than anything on this one. But I would agree that this album is more consistent and daring than Golden Age. I commend him for trying something different. But really, the last 2 albums don’t hold a candle two his masterpieces - Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals. Nor are they anywhere near as good as Portrait of an American Family and Holy Wood…in my opinion.

  4. Michiel Says:

The entire album sounds dull and uninspired and the production is pretty much godawful. There isn’t one song one this album that can match past albums such as antichrist superstar and mechanical animals, not to mention the lyrics, which are downright whiney and average at best. Manson would be wise to stop making music alltogether, while he still has some credibility left, because if this is the best he can come up with after four years of near radio silence - some covers and a “best of”collection not included - (”I might have mood-poisoning, it must be something that I hate” - I mean come on!), he truly is pathetic. Oh my, how the mighty have fallen.

  5. Dave Says:

Agreed. He should probably stop. I don’t want him to hurt the legacy.
