Sound: If those angsty nu-metal bands of the late 90s/early 00s (Staind, Creed, etc.) had a prog metal elegance, grander choruses and a high-flying, operatic vocalist, instead of an imitation-Eddie Vedder growler.
Heavy Rotation track: “Dance of the Manatee”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Vice-Versa”; “A Wolf Descends Upon the Spanish Sahara”; “Kyla Cries Cologne
Recommended: Fair to Midland need to ditch some of the muddy production and bruising riff/brooding verse formula that pops up from time to time. Those elements lack rhythmic punch and impact. If they fix those drawbacks, they have the potential to make exquisite music and carve out their own niche somewhere between Tool and Queensryche.
Grade: B
