Note: This is the second official LP from the Minneapolis-based, devout Muslim, albino MC.
Vocals: His hearty and fiery rhymes stick to your ribs and burn with passion as they channel the raging, soulful melodies inside of him.
Lyrics: Very personal. He addresses his failed marriage, the custody battle over his son and his racial role in the world as an albino. Plus, he takes a few anti-war, anti-Bush administration shots. He also pays tribute to influences like Boogie Down Productions and Public Enemy and even throws in an old school, hype-the-crowd party track.
Production: Often revives the early years of hip hop with record scratching, electro funky beats and the occasional guitar riff. It also grabs some mellower 70s r&b, disco and reggae elements. Despite the classic flavor, the sound feels modern.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Letter From the Government”; “Walking Away”; “Truth Is”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Take Me Home”; “Lookin’ At Me Sideways”; “The Puzzle”; “Whatcha Got”
Recommended: Brother Ali’s raw sincerity infectiously oozes out all over The Undisputed Truth. His rapid-fire flow, confessional lyrics, love of hip hop and knack for hooks will make you take notice and endear you to his beliefs.
