SYNDICATE
Posted by: Dave on March 15, 2007 at 9:20 am

AndrewBirdArmchairsmallerSound: Gentle and breezy orchestral pop/folk that occasionally kicks into indie rock mode.
Notable instruments: Violins that briskly bounce and soothingly weave, glockenspiel that chimes and tinkles, whistling that projects emphatically and often achieves superhuman tones.
Vocals: Whispery, warm and husky crooning that’s predominately laid back but can get animated.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Heretics”; “Imitosis”; “Plasticities”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Spare-Ohs”; “Fiery Crash”
Recommended: Andrew Bird is a sublimely talented musician who can craft uniquely playful and intricate compositions. The first half of Armchair Apocrypha stunningly introduces new possibilities for a singer/songwriter. The more reserved second half is less riveting, but still showcases Andrew’s impressive level of artistry.
Grade: A- (Top 20 Albums of 2007 Candidate)
