SYNDICATE

FujiyaMiyagiTransparentNote: The duo of David Best and Steve Lewis (aka Fujiya & Miyagi) are not Japanese. Their name is taken from a Japanese brand of turntable and yes, the late Pat Morita’s character from the Karate Kid movies.
Sound: Quirky, electronic pop with smooth groovin’ basslines, whispery vocals and amusingly memorable catchphrases.
Heavy Rotation track: “Collarbone”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Sucker Punch”; “In One Ear & Out the Other”; “Ankle Injuries”
Explicit Lyrics*: none
Recommended: If you like your funky, chill, synth music served up with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. Fujiya & Miyagi are not as daring or innovative as the like-minded Hot Chip, but they’re slightly more fun.
Grade: B
