Sound: Synths romp, bleep and twinkle and guitars chug, riff and bend to create punky, tangential, noisescapes that frequently shift directions. Meanwhile, frontwoman Satomi Matsuzaki balances the chaos with her childlike, exuberant and imperfect vocals.
Heavy Rotation track: “The Perfect Me”
Medium Rotation tracks: “+81”; “Believe E.S.P.”
Explicit Lyrics*: none
Recommended: The first three tracks take Deerhoof’s limitless, avant-garde palette and reins it into exhilarating, multi-sectioned blasts of creativity. The remainder of the album is equally as intriguing, but not as energetic and exciting.
