Sound: As always, The Pernice Brothers deliver delicate, orchestrated pop, but at times they strip away the rich layers, rock a little harder than normal and cut back on some of their signature sunny sheen.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Automaton”; “Somerville”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Cruelty to Animals”; “PCH One”; “Lightheaded”; “Conscience Clean (I Went to Spain)”
Explicit Lyrics*: none
Recommended: If you enjoy the gorgeous, string-laden sounds and expert songwriting of the Pernice Brothers, you’ll be happy to know Live A Little’s got that. If you’ve always wished they’d loosen up and crank out something a little leaner, you’ve got several of those tracks, too (as the album title suggests). I just wish there were a couple more of the rockers.
Grade: B+
