Sound: Alternates between alt country/roots rock (laid back and breezy) and indie rock (either hard strumming or with a poppy bounce).
Vocals: A fragile and achy but smooth and tuneful twang. Somewhere in the ballpark of Tom Petty and Jeff Tweedy (Wilco)…though the timbre most resembles the stuff on The Glands self-titled 2000 album (a great Athens, GA band that has sadly released nothing since then).
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Friends of Mine”; “Magazines”; “Stop Talking”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Brother/Sister”; “First Time”; “It’s a Shame”
Explicit Lyrics*: “Friends of Mine”
Recommended: If you’re a fan of the artists mentioned above, you’ll find plenty to like on Brother/Sister.
Grade: B+
* Noting of explicit lyrics is for the benefit of radio music directors or anyone else that needs/wants to keep their music FCC-friendly.
