Sound: Colorful, theatrical, silly and wildly eclectic electronic music with a deep arsenal of guest vocalists and rappers. The beats aren’t as hard-hitting or immediate as their previous stuff, which allows them room to dabble in the bizarre – hoedown banjo playing a Eastern European folk dance, klezmer music fit for the club, a swing/soul/dance collision, British grime MCing in a carnival atmosphere…and more.
Heavy Rotation tracks: none
Medium Rotation tracks: “Take Me Back to Your House”; “Hush Boy”
Explicit Lyrics*: “Run 4 Cover”
Recommended: You have to give Basement Jaxx credit for whipping up some intriguing sounds. From a cerebral standpoint, the music is often quite interesting. But you want to feel the Jaxx vibrate throughout your whole body. Their usual energy gets lost in all the experimentation.
Grade: B-

Yes, but what of the new Goldfrapp remix album? Can you believe they didn’t put the Ladytron remix on there? What do I need two Mum remixes for? I trade them both for one Ladytron!
And this Carl Craig jam is wack!
