Sound: The drive-fast, open-road chugging found in the desert rock of Queens of the Stone Age and Fu Manchu meets the claustrophobic urban aggression of Hot Snakes. A precise, pounding assault that’s balanced with a confident fluidity.
Vocals: The relaxed, talk/singing and smooth, melodic moments work every time. The strained yowls are hit or miss.
Heavy Rotation track: “Smuggler”
Medium Rotation track: “One Thousand Tongues”; “Sea Legs”
Explicit Lyrics*: none
Recommended: To fans of primal, ass-kicking rock. Heavy Hands would have benefited from a little more variety, but the feral riffs and pounding beats keep your adrenaline churning throughout.
Grade: B
* Noting of explicit lyrics is for the benefit of radio music directors or anyone else that needs/wants to keep their music FCC-friendly.
