Sound: Starts with a bleak outlook on today’s post-Katrina, war-on-terror world with urban jazz club hip hop, tense guitars/synths and gritty funk/r&b. The second half lightens up a bit and leaves room for hope with more positivity and spirituality.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Here I Come“; “In the Music
”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Don’t Feel Right “; “Bread and Butter
” (bonus track); “Game Theory
”
Recommended: As a lyricist, Black Thought has never sounded so vital and the band’s music has never sounded as urgent. Too bad they let up on the chaotic, doomsday vibe in the second half. Game Theory loses some of its fire near the end.
Grade: B+
