Sound: His weathered croak often sounds as if it’s obscured by dust, wind and decades of degeneration in the recording quality. Despite the vintage feel, his lonesome West, country folk sounds more modern than ever before with some fuzzy electric guitars, smokin’ percussion, even some surf rock. Diehards don’t worry, though, he still takes time to strip it all down with a couple intimate, old-timey reflections.
Heavy Rotation track: “Right In the Head”
Medium Rotation track: “To Go Home“; “Requiem
“; “Rollercoaster
“; “Neptune’s Net
“; “Magic Trick
”
Recommended: If you’ve always been intrigued by the time warp involved in experiencing M. Ward, but found him a little too dated or mellow, the more current and upbeat Post-War should have what you’re looking for.
