Note: The band’s name is taken from the title of the 1992 Cormac McCarthy novel about the brutal area near the Texas-Mexico border in the mid 1800s.
Also Note: Blood Meridian singer/songwriter Matthew Camirand has also been a member of the Vancouver-based bands: The Black Halos, Black Mountain and The Pink Mountaintops.
Sound: Blues and country rock with a blasé, indie vibe that paints a murderous, Wild West landscape full of scandalous and death-ridden love songs.
Playlist Partners: Bright Eyesicon, The White Stripesicon, Nirvanaicon unplugged, The Modern Loversicon
Heavy Rotation tracks:Your Boyfriend’s Bluesicon“; “Most Daysicon“; “Soldiers of Christicon“; “Work Hard, For What?icon
Medium Rotation tracks:Try For Youicon“; “Get Someplace Elseicon“; “Kick Up the Dusticon
Recommended: Kick Up the Dust is a landmark album for fans of dark lyricists. With an ever-changing variety of styles, Blood Meridian delivers the hard-to-swallow message without getting too brooding and while keeping you humming along the whole time.
Grade: A- (Strong chance of making my Top 10 Albums of 2006)
