Sound: Their precious, piano-driven Brit pop has evolved into a harder, darker and more urgent beast with a more expansive palette, including electric pianos and synths run through guitar effects pedals to make a dense, cavernous sound.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Is It Any Wonder?“; “Put It Behind You
“; “Nothing In My Way
“
Medium Rotation tracks: “Broken Toy“; “Try Again
“; “Crystal Ball
“
Recommended: Since Tom Chaplin’s voice is fuller and stronger than Chris Martin’s (Coldplay), they’ve leaped from a wussier version of Coldplay to a band capable of U2-sized rock. If they kept this new-found intensity up for the entire album, they’d really have something.
Grade: B+ (Slight chance of making my Top 20 Albums of 2006)
