Note: Peeping Tom has been a long-in-the-works project from former Faith No More frontman Mike Patton. It features collaborations with artists ranging from Kool Keith and Kid Koala to Massive Attack and Amon Tobin to Norah Jones.
Sound: Mike Patton’s powerful prog metal pipes soar and collide with a scratch and loop hodgepodge of hip hop and electronic beats with an air of mystery and danger.
Look For: Norah Jones’ surprising, imaging-altering vocal contribution to “Sucker,” where she rhymes the track’s title with “motherfucker.”
Heavy Rotation track: “Mojo” (featuring Rahzel and Dan the Automator)
Medium Rotation tracks: “Five Seconds” (featuring Odd Nosdam); “Sucker
” (featuring Norah Jones)
Recommended: Peeping Tom is more accessible than most of Patton’s post-Faith No More projects (Fantomas, Tomahawk). Lots of notable sounds and moments, but few impressive, fully realized songs.
Grade: B-
