Note: Roisin was the vocalist in UK experimental electronic duo Moloko (who released four proper albums between 1995 and 2002) and this is her solo debut.
Also Note: Last year the full length album was released in the U.K., but only the title track was released in the U.S. on the Grey’s Anatomy soundtrack.
Sound: Playfully sexy vocals over cabaret and loungey dance tracks that are improbably constructed from anything famed producer Matthew Herbert can get his hands on – from muted jazzy trumpets, stomping tribal timpani and noisy staccato synths to the sound of steam being released, panting and the clink, clank and jingle of everyday objects.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Night of the Dancing Flame“; “Sinking Feeling
“; “Ruby Blue
“; “Sow Into You
”
Medium Rotation tracks: “If We’re In Love“; “Ramalama
”
Recommended: If you like adventurous electronic music that reins in the track lengths to the 3-6 minute mark. Ruby Blue is more streamlined and accessible than any Moloko album and the daring production makes for some fascinating rhythms.
