Sound: Jammy rock with minimalist and dissonant guitars that can steadily ratchet up the tension or mellow out and breathe. The instrumental sections outnumber the spots where Doug Martsch’s distinctive melancholy yearning and vulnerable reflections take over. You In Reverse has a looser, live feel than anything Built To Spill’s done in over a decade.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Traces“; “Goin’ Against Your Mind
“
Medium Rotation tracks: “Conventional Wisdom“; “Wherever You Go
“
Recommended: If you like Built to Spill for their mesmerizing, epic jams (like the ones on Perfect From Now On), there are a couple moments of excellence here, but there are just as many lengthy, uninteresting parts. If you like their tidier tracks, you’re mostly out of luck. For best results, download the highlights and skip the rest.
