Note: Destroyer has been the brainchild of Vancouver’s Den Bejar since 1995 and this is the 7th studio album from the project.
Also note: Dan has contributed songwriting and vocals to all three of The New Pornographers albums.
Sound: Glammy folk rock with rambling, bizarre, stream-of-consciousness descriptions and observations that stretches out into stately epics but occasionally condenses into poppy nuggets…then ends on a Neil Young-esque bluesy jam.
Heavy Rotation tracks: none
Medium Rotation tracks: “A Dangerous Woman Up to a Point“; “European Oils
“; “Watercolours Into the Ocean
“; “Priest’s Knees
“
Recommended: The framework of The New Pornographers reins his boundless and wacky mind into oddball pop, but left to his own devices it spills all over the place. Luckily, what spills out is mostly fascinating; it just requires more patience and effort to take it all in due to the unabridged length of most of the tracks.
