Sound: The bouncy basslines, heart-on-sleeve lyrics and jittery energy recall The Cure and Hot Hot Heat
, however Keith Murray’s clean, melodic vocals are far less polarizing than those bands’ wailing frontmen. Plus, they frequently rip through blistering guitar riffs pleasing to the arena-minded rock fan.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt“; “The Great Escape
”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Inaction“; “What’s the Word
“; “This Scene
Is Dead“; “It’s a Hit
“; “Worth the Wait
”
Recommended: To anyone looking for a band that rocks hard but smart. We Are Scientists hit you in quick bursts and move on, often leaving you wishing they’d developed their songs further. But that just leaves room for improvement from this promising young band whose mix of riffs and brains should appeal to a wide audience.
Grade: B+ (Slight chance of making my Top 20 Albums of 2006)
