SYNDICATE

Sound: Adventurous folk pop with twists of country and funky, fuzz guitar rock; at times it strays into sugary, 70s AM Radio, light rock territory
Vocals: Once again Ollie Knight and Gale Paridjanian’s dual attack shows off their unique mix of twang, androgyny and angst
Heavy Rotation tracks:Over and Overicon“; “Red Moonicon“; “Asleep With the Firefliesicon
Medium Rotation tracks:Fishing for a Dreamicon“; “They Can’t Buy the Sunshineicon“; “Come and Goicon“; “Building Wraps Round Meicon
Recommended: They take even more chances than they did on Ether Song (my #14 album of 2003) and end up with something just as exciting, if a little fluffier. The lyrics are sometimes simplistic and unimaginative (particularly when the music’s at its most compelling), but the overall sound and musical creativity are captivating.
Grade: A- (Top 20 Albums of 2005 Candidate)
