Note: This is the third solo album from the former Pavement frontman
Sound: He’s pushed the progressive guitar sounds of the last album, Pig Lib, further by adding some whacked-out synthesizers in spots. Despite constant experimentation with odd chords, tunings and arrangements, each song is reined in to a catchy, multi-faceted hookfest. Whether with rock journeys, elegant meditations or sunny pop tunes, the offbeat and singular sound and mind of Mr. Malkmus keeps you riveted.
Heavy Rotation tracks: All of them, except for “Malediction”
Recommended: Highly to all Pavement/Malkmus fans, this ranks with, if not above, the best Pavement albums (Terror Twilight and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain) and is the best album of his already stellar solo career.
Grade: A+ (Strong Album of the Year Candidate)
