Note: Fannypack are fronted by a multicultural trio of female MC/vocalists – Jessibel (half Puerto Rican, half Thai), Belinda (half Black, half Indian) and Cat (Irish)
Production: Great balance of vintage 80’s sounds (simplistic, thumping bass and throwback synths) and today’s slicker, more complex R&B tracks; they’ve elevated from solid retro/novelty act (on their debut So Stylistic) to modern standout
Vocals: Verses are a mix of rapping, chanting and singing with sampled, sung and pep rally/cheerleader-style choruses
Lyrics: Far more sexual, crass and thuggish than the playfully sassy So Stylistic (which is somewhat disappointing), but their silly and juvenile mouths are still a lot of fun to hear
Play when: You need to start the party now!
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Feet & Hands“; “On My Lap
”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Twisted“; “Keep On
“; “Keep It
Up“; “718
”
Recommended: To anyone looking for something more exciting and adventurous than the rest of today’s female hip hop/R&B.
Grade: A- (Top 20 Albums of 2005 Candidate)
