Sound: Loungey indie rock (i.e. bright, melodic guitar melodies, jazzy chords and off-kilter chord progressions with understated crooning)
Playlist Partners: Cake (but less tongue-in-cheek), Pavement
/Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks
(but Crystal Skulls’ Christian Wargo is a much better singer) and French Kicks
(but not as light and wussy)
Heavy Rotation track: “No Room for Change”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Hussy“; “Beat Me to It
“; “Locked Down
“; “Airport Motels
“; “Weak Spot
”
Recommended: To anyone that likes sophisticated underground rock that comes in pop-friendly bursts and reveals new dimensions with each listen.
Grade: A- (Top 20 Albums of 2005 candidate)
