Sound: The warm and vulnerable voice of Sebadoh and The Folk Implosion
strips it down to acoustic-guitar-driven, mid and slow-tempo meditations on love and relationships
Notes: His Sebadoh song “Tree” was performed by members of my wedding party at my wedding – the guy can write one hell of a simple but poignant love song
Heavy Rotation track: “Legendary“
Medium Rotation tracks: “Mary“; “Holding Back the Year
“; “Caterpillar Girl
“; “The Ballad of Daykitty
“; “Royalty
“; “Morning’s After Me
“
Look For: His cover of Ratt’s 1984 Pop Metal classic “Round and Round
” (not exactly impressive, but certainly novel)
Recommended: To anyone that appreciates him as one of the most tender and prolific songwriters of the last 15 years. A whole album of his softer side may be more than some can handle, but there are lighter, bouncier moments for balance.
