Sounds: West Coast gangsta rap with lots of Dr. Dre production and 50 Cent collaboration; The Game’s raspy voice is somewhat unique, while his hardened Compton lyrics would improve with fewer references to hip hop’s history.
Notes: The Game joined 50 Cent’s G-Unit crew in 2004, but was “excommunicated” by 50 for being “disloyal” on February 28, 2005
Heavy Rotation tracks: “How We Do” (featuring 50 Cent);
“Runnin’” (featuring Tony Yayo)
Medium Rotation tracks: “Hate It or Love It” (featuring 50 Cent); “Dreams
“; “Church for Thugs
“; “Start From Scratch
” (featuring Marsha of Floetry
)
Recommended: To gangsta rap fans. The quality production (though fairly predictable) and 50 Cent’s input make this a good listen and push it to a level slightly above the herd.
Grade: B-
