In 2003, Brooklyn-based band The Forms released their Steve Albini-recorded debut, Icarus. The album got some buzz in the blog world, but with 10 tracks in 18 minutes it felt a little chintzy. Since then, they’ve toured with quality acts like The National, The Hold Steady, Death From Above 1979 and interestingly, OK Go, and have raised their profile a bit. Now the four-piece are back with another Albini-helmed creation, their self-titled follow-up, which is set for an October 23rd release.
They remind me a little of Sunny Day Real Estate and Pinback with their ability to blend pretty melodic sounds into a swirling stew and avoid obvious hooks in the process. You can download a sample from the new album here:
