SYNDICATE

Oakley HallOn September 11, Oakley Hall will take a major step towards reaching a larger audience. That day the country-flavored, psychedelic indie rockers with multi-gender vocals (who sound a little like Jefferson Airplane, one of my favorite bands of all time) will release their fourth LP. But after three relatively low-profile albums (two of which came out last year), the upcoming I’ll Follow You will be their first release for the mighty Merge Records (whose roster includes such indie heavyweights as Arcade Fire, Spoon, M. Ward and many more). The band has toured with labelmate M. Ward, along with Constantines, Calexico and most recently with Bright Eyes and Gillian Welch.

For a sample from I’ll Follow You, you can download or stream “No Dreams.”

With the co-ed harmonies, tight rhythmic groove and rootsy guitar soloing, there’s a lot to like. If there’s more where that came from, Oakley Hall may break through in a big way this year.
