When they emerged in 1996, Imperial Teen was best known for being the new band of former Faith No More keyboardist Roddy Bottum. Since then, they’ve established themselves as one of the best at cranking out delicious boy/girl indie pop…when they get around to releasing an album.
It’s been five years since their last studio release, On. The best two tracks on there (“Ivanka” and “Our Time”) made my Best of Indie and Indie-Minded Rock of Vol. 2. If you’ve never heard them, I highly recommend you download them on iTunes. They’re both irresistible.
Now, Imperial Teen are ready to release The Hair, The TV, The Baby & The Band on August 21st. The title references some of the ways they’ve been keeping busy the last few years. Merge Records guarantees the album will be fun, and based on their previous work and the new track “Shim Sham,” I’m inclined to believe them.
