Last spring, Editors debut album, The Back Room, hit U.S. shores nearly a year after its UK release. With their mopey-but-catchy style they simultaneously conjured Interpol, Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen and Morrissey and unleashed killer singles like “All Sparks,” “Blood” and “Munich” (all of which ended up on either volume 1 or volume 3 of my year-end Indie and Indie-Minded Rock mixes).
On July 17th, Editors will deliver the follow-up, An End Has a Start. Once again, the album will be produced by Garret “Jackknife” Lee (also known for his work with Snow Patrol and Kasabian) and allegedly finds the band creating more positive and passionate music. Let’s hope it’s not too uplifting. The darkness – particularly in the lyrics – on The Back Room is what made it stand out.
