Michel Gondry, director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and many innovative music videos including The White Stripes “Fell In Love With A Girl” (think Legos) and “The Hardest Button to Button” (think multiplying instruments), is also a drummer. He was once in the French band Oui Oui and recently recorded with Korean-born, NYC-based songstress Jihae.
Jiahe’s hypnotic, trippy and slightly nasal style reminds me a lot of Poe (who released the excellent album Hello back in 1995) and her debut album, My Heart Is an Elephant, will be released in March.
Here’s an MP3 of “Cement Garden” from the album:
Also, here’s a link to her video for “Black Pearl.”
Another track from the album is called “In Love With A Tornado,” featuring Michel Gondry on percussion. Sneak Attack Media is hosting a contest to give away the drumsticks, tambourine, whisk and other kitchen items he used during recording. For more info, click here.

I like “Cement Garden,” thanks Dave
I must say, however, I’m suprised you haven’t reported on the just-announced Coachella lineup. I’m psyched to see Mark Wahlberg return to his firts love - let’s hope the Funky Bunch still have their early 90s chops…

With each excellent Mark Wahlberg performance I’ve seen on the big screen (I really enjoyed him in “Invincible,” “Boogie Nights” is one of the greatest movies of all time, etc.), I always leave the theater hoping one day (and perhaps for only one day) he could reunite with the Funky Bunch to rekindle those “Good Vibrations.”
April 29th will be a great day.
