It’s been 3 years since Irish singer/songwriter Damien Rice stormed the music world with his debut album O. The delicate, gorgeous and tortured statement sold over two-million copies worldwide and ended up on several year-end, best-of lists. Damien Rice’s second album, 9, will finally hit stores on November 14th, but you can hear it now on aol.com.
The follow-up was written, recorded and produced entirely by Damien. He also designed all the artwork for the packaging.
Upon first listen to the stream, 9 sounds a lot like O. If you loved his spare arrangements, tender lyrics and pained delivery, you should be satisfied. For me, I can’t take a whole album of this stuff, though I do think “Volcano” and “Cannonball” were great songs from O. Plus, at a wedding last year, I witnessed the bride and groom make their first dance to “The Blower’s Daughter.” The repeated line “I can’t take my eyes off of you” made for some poignant moments for sure.
