20 Years after “It’s Tricky” was a hit for Run DMC, they’re being sued by The Knack for not clearing the sample of “My Sharona” contained in the song. So why did it take 20 years? The Knack say they just heard the song for the first time last year.
How is that possible? I know their career has been in relative obscurity since the early 80s, but did they stop listening to new music at that point, too? If they were a foreign band, maybe, just maybe I’d believe them…but they’re from L.A. This reeks of a desperation financial move/publicity stunt. And whether it’s true they didn’t hear the song until last year or not, there’s gotta be a statute of limitations on suing over uncleared samples? If it comes down to it, I’d much rather there be an injuction to bar the future sale of “My Sharona” than “It’s Tricky.” The Knack can’t take one of the great, early hip hop classics away from us.

How did they not hear “It’s Tricky” until last year? No one told them? Ever? They never heard it on a VH1 retrospective show or on the Muzak at a local K-Mart?
The Knack suck for this.
