Other Men Wake Up Swimming (Robcore)

It would be silly to say anything in this little review without mentioning that this is a Rob Crow band. In most cases this could end the discussion. Rob Crow is highly respected throughout the indie rock scene for his many bands including Pinback and The Ladies. Other Men is a revival of his first band Heavy Vegetable, and 11 years after the breakup they picked up where they ended creating Other Men. The music itself holds onto their complex melodies seen in contemporary math rock bands. If you’re familiar with Rob Crow bands, Other Men will sound right at home. He seems to borrow a bit of everything he’s put out in the decade to get delicately complex riffs intermingled with his voice. Think of them as a Pinback amped on coke, or The Ladies on Ritalin.
