Mouthful of Bees The End (Afternoon)

MouthfulofBeesNew to the KRLX record library this week is The End, the debut album from Minneapolis-based Mouthful of Bees, out on Minneapolis-based label Afternoon Records (headed by St. Olaf grad Ian Anderson). How very Minnesotan.

Mouthful of Bees recorded the entire album of The End over a five-day period this summer, and everything about it seems a little rough-hewn and endearingly slapdash. Fans of Tapes ‘n Tapes will probably feel at home in this record. The album’s rough production comes across in a fuzzy, mostly charming kind of lo-fi indie rock: plaintive, pretty, mostly unintelligible vocals soar over distorted guitar and waves of reverb. This could’ve been made in your basement.
