BARR Summary (5 Rue Christine)
Simple is better. Bands too often add layers, complicated beats, blips, digital enhancements, and vocal harmonies. BARR’s greatness is its minimalism. It’s refreshing to write something about music that doesn’t involve intricate soundscapes or technical mastery. The band bio on the 5 Rue Christine website says it best “This is BARR. He is a good kid. He takes simple beats and talks about life over them. It is nice and heartwarming and thought provoking.”
Who needs singing anyways; monologues are the way to go. Barr is original and clever - he doesn’t yell, he contemplates. He innocently suggests a paradigm shift, when he asks out loud “What is a pop song?”
Cool Trivia: Brendan Fowler (aka Barr) in high school played in a band with members of Animal Collective
